A Toolkit note
A plan with the dependencies in it
A list of tasks sorted by urgency is not a plan. A plan knows what has to wait for what.
Every grid on this shelf judges a task on its own. Real work rarely arrives on its own. The brochure waits on the photographs, the photographs wait on the product, the product waits on the supplier, and the supplier waits on the deposit you have not paid because the brochure is not out. Put that through an urgent-and-important grid and you will file the deposit under "not urgent".
The plan I would write fits on one page. Each piece of work on a line: what it is, who is doing it, when it will be finished, and what it is waiting for. Then read the "waiting for" column backwards until you find the things that wait for nothing. Those are the only things you can do today, and there are usually fewer than you think. Everything else is queued behind them, however urgent it feels.
Keep the page alive. When a line finishes, the lines waiting on it wake up, and the plan tells you so. A plan that is not touched for a fortnight is a list again.
